    • Farm Street rail crossing

Thank you Richard for the updates on Hospital Road and Harding Street. Any plans to pave over the Farm Street tracks? It is the most heinous grade crossing in town. My car's suspension thanks you.

      • Parking on sidewalk

I've noticed a disturbing trend this summer especially with all the construction going on around the North St/Green St/Dale St. It seems like there is a lot of cars and other vehicles that have been parking on the sidewalk blocking parts of it and restricting pedestrian right of way. The local by-law (article 4 section 3 and 8) clearly prohibits this activity and puts limits on this to one hour or 10 minutes. I've tried to call this in to the MPD but it doesn't seem to be helping at all. How do I go about bringing more attention to…

        • Pocket seating area next to Royal Pizza

The adjacent "hole in the wall" between Royal Pizza and Berkshire Hathaway presents a glaringly obvious place for 3-4 picnic tables with umbrellas. Instead, all we have is a deteriorating map of Greece painted on the cement wall that I believe many would consider an eye-sore. Who owns this portion of land? Royal or the Larkins? Would the town consider donating?

This would add foot traffic, allow an outdoor eating area to Royal/Go Fresh/(Whomever is replacing Jenny Boston), and make a beautiful addition to the town center. How can we make this happen? Especially with great weather around the way.

          • recycling

The amount of recycleables being thrown out is appalling. Today at Wheelock School, I saw at least 10 one-time-use water bottles on the field by the parking lot. The amount of stuff in the trash bins there is absurd. Is there a town recycling program? Are there bins to put out for residents to use? How can we make this a bigger issue?

              Hi Dennis,
Your point is well taken. In talks earlier with the superintendent of schools, that dumpster at Wheelock is actually under the control of Medfield Youth Soccer. I will forward your concern to both the school and Youth Soccer and will bring it up at the Selectmen’s meeting. In walking back today from the Marathon in Natick I saw a homemade wire cylinder with a sign “cans and bottles” along the side of the street, It was filled with cans and plastic water bottles. Not sure what it would take to have such a system here next to dumpsters and trash cans that are at our parks, etc.

            • I would like to see the turf replaced at Medfield High School along with the installment of air conditioning inside the school. The learning

I would like to see the turf replaced at Medfield High School along with the installment of air conditioning inside the school. The learning environment in 60+ degree weather is uncomfortable and unsafe for the children. It should be a priority for our children to be able to learn in a comfortable environment than a police station costing 19 million dollars should. Especially when the crime rate in Medfield is so low. Along with the turf, my son is a 3 sport athlete and he and all of his friends are always complaining of the dents on the turf and…

Once the Cumberland Farms gas station is completed could they put a covering over the gas pumps to protect the patrons that pump there

                  • Green St sidewalk/traffic

                    Hi Richard,
Last year Green st. was recently "repaved", although it was a rather skim/light coating. I am assuming a temporary measure to hold over until a more complete job is done. However, nothing was done to address the sidewalk issue. The sidewalk is in horrible condition from the beginning of Green all the way to Hinkley and beyond. There is no curb there as well so people have been using the sidewalk as parking or to right pass (I have seen it!), which I assume neither is legal, nor have parked cars been ticketed. This forces pedestrians into the…

                    • Enforcement of Do Not Block Intersection

                      Hi Richard,
Despite the signs on the traffic signals, drivers continue to block the intersections in the center of town. At midday today, so, not even peak rush hour, the 109 traffic was blocking the South St intersection, so that cars could not get out. I recall one of the reasons the signs took so long to be put up was because of the cost. If the town is not enforcing the law requiring drivers to not block, then it was a waste of the town's money to even put them up. I am not looking for the police to…

                      • speed bumps

                        Dear Mr DeSorgher,
I am curious as to what it would take to have speed bumps installed on Plain St? Cars routinely speed down the street and despite multiple attempts by the police to patrol the street, post police cars on it, etc, the problem persists. Thirteen children from the age of 15 to 4 live on the stretch of Plain St between route 27 and the town gardens, (with several more past the gardens). What do you think??

                        • Removal of Utility Poles in Town Center

                          Selectman,

I had seen this previously discussed, however, I am curious to when we are going to see our power go underground in the town center. It is certainly an eye-sore and would enhance the look and feel of Medfield center. Consider the area from Cumberland Farms to the Peak House and the adjacent North to South roads that intersect. I imagine those poles replaced with light posts (but keep the American Flags on them)!

Looking at surrounding towns centers that have made this move (Westwood, Norfolk, Needham, Wellesley), they certainly look much better without them! This could be a…

                          • Create safer path for bikers on Pine Street

Is it possible to create space for bikes on Pine Street? This road is incredibly difficult to navigate in a car when bikers are taking up a portion of the road. I am afraid that there will be an accident if something isn't done to protect both drivers and bikers.

Are there any formal plans to install sidewalks they a town or state program on Main Street from the center of town to Nebo. The current situation is very unsafe and can support town wide health.

                                • Alleviation of growing traffic congestion

A recent posting spoke of the conversion of an abandoned rail line into a greenway (from Ice House road to Needham). Although an attractive idea, this would require the removal of the rail bed. Given the ever-growing traffic congestion in Medfield, would the establishment of a commuter connection to Needham be a viable alternative? An example of this approach can be found in Princeton where NJ Transit operates a two car train, called the "Dinky" from the center of town to the main Princeton Junction train station.

I feel that the Tavern will be a win-win for the town. It will add to the historic beauty of our town and will give us a much needed place for families to stay when visiting here. The owners will deal with the problem of the parking and I know that they are trying to add a piece of history to the town.

                                      • Refurbishing the Center of Town (Maintaining a Historic look)

                                        Mr. Selectman,

Starbucks and Brothers are great improvements to not only the look but the foot traffic in the center of town. I wanted to bring up a few points about our current town center and where some improvements could lie.

                                        1. I heard a rumor that we may are considering the movement of our electricity/phone lines underground in the town center and removing the ugly poles (looks awesome in Norfolk and other towns north of us) Is this true?

                                        2. While from i. Peakhouse to the Library ii. Zebras to the Police Station and iii. Cumberland Farms to Noon…

                                        • Mr. Desorgher,

I also view this situation as a win/win scenario for the town. Though I am no longer a resident, I grew up in Medfield and was inspired by the town's history, especially the activities of King Phillip in the town. At any rate, I would like to say that living in such a historic New England town inspired me to study and publish in archaeological science. That being said I think it would be unwise to not refurbish the tavern to achieve an educational goal as well as a conservation goal. I propose that an archaeological excavation be conducted as…
